13 months {jacob}

I’m a little late on this one.  Seems like that’s just how it’s going this month.  Normally by now all the Christmas presents are bought and wrapped.  This year I still have shopping to do.  Normally my Christmas cards have long since been sent and received.  This year I haven’t even finished printing them yet.  Usually my Christmas cookies have been made and are half gone.  This year we’re currently in the process of making them.  I guess there are just some years like this, but I also guess that three days late on a monthly post for baby number four isn’t too bad 😉

Age: 13 months on December 18, 2015

Is it just me, or is he suddenly looking so much older?!  I can’t believe how quickly he is growing up.

Sleeps: This month was rough.  Jacob had a cold for some time, and that didn’t help, but I was up three to five times a night with him some nights.  We are done with that.  Done.  Starting on Friday, the first night of Christmas break, when Jacob woke at his habitual 9:30pm waking time, I didn’t go in.  I let him cry.  It was so hard to do, but I stood firm and after only twenty minutes he was sound asleep again and only woke once more that night at 3:30 am!  It was the best night’s sleep I’ve had in months.  Saturday and Sunday nights were even better since he only woke once each night.  Last night I tried to let him cry, but after ten minutes my heart couldn’t take it.  I have mixed feelings about the whole cry it out thing, but at 13 months, there is no reason for Jacob to be waking at night.  It’s time for sleep!  Other than the whole waking up thing, Jacob is great.  He goes down easily and is in bed from about 6:30 pm to 7:00 am.

Naps: Same as last month: Jacob naps very well at home.  He takes a one to two and a half hour nap each morning starting around 8:30 or 9:00am.  He goes down easily without a fuss.  Jacob takes a second nap each afternoon around two or three.  At his school, however, he’s still not much of a napper.  They were lucky this month though and got a couple of two hour naps out of him.  Hooray!  Progress.

Eats: Jacob still nurses a few times a day and eats breakfast, lunch, dinner, and an afternoon snack.  He loves bananas, pears, peaches, oranges, sweet potato, quesadilla, noodles, turkey meatballs, plain pancakes, and drinking whole milk and water from a sippy cup.

Diapers: Size 5

Clothes: 18-24 month clothes

Loves: crawling, pulling himself to standing, climbing up and down the sofa, playing with Andrew’s toys {puzzles, blocks, cars, books}, feeding himself, “dancing” to music, “talking,” his siblings, cuddling, crawling around outside, the dishwasher, and his pacifier, playing with all of the plastic containers in the bottom drawer in the kitchen, walking around with his walking toy, bath him, and being an independent baby.

Does NOT like: being tired or too hungry or being picked up when he wants to keep crawling around.  He does NOT like it when Andrew takes a toy away from him.

New this month: Jacob is much more responsive to questions asked of him.  He can appropriately nod “yes” or shake “no” to answer just about anything you ask him.  He is more “verbal,” but didn’t add any new words this month.  Jacob is standing without holding onto anything for longer periods of time now, but still hasn’t worked up the courage to walk on his own.

Best moment{s}: Thanksgiving Break and getting to spend nine whole days home with him and seeing his personality develop more and more.

Most difficult moment{s}: Those sleepless nights!

Looking forward to: Jacob’s second Christmas and watching him take those first steps.

Happy 13 months sweet baby boy!

And just for fun, here is Andrew’s 13 month update.
