our 4th of July weekend

Our family spent the 4th of July in Scottsdale again this year.  Not only did the entire family make it out this time {except for my sister’s husband who is a Marine currently on deployment}, but we also celebrated my grandfather’s 90th birthday.  There were lots of fireworks, swimming, good food, chocolate cake I decorated to look like an American flag, and over fifteen birthday calls and 30 cards for my grandpa from family and friends.

We spent part of the afternoon on the 4th with the girls at the Four Seasons pool {where my brother and sister were staying} and while my brother, sister, and husband enjoyed their bucket of beers, they surprised me with a delicious strawberry daiquiri mock-tail and the girls with strawberry smoothies.  Just what we needed in the 100+ weather!  Later that evening after BBQ tri-tip and homemade potato salad, we set off our own little fireworks in my grandpa’s driveway and then settled in on the fairway of the golf course behind his home to watch a fabulous firework show put on by his country club.  Andrew slept right through the whole show!

On Saturday night we enjoyed a family dinner out at Pinnacle Peak Patio, a favorite restaurant of ours for the past 30+ years.  Unfortunately, it is set to close soon since the land was sold to be developed for housing {so sad!}.  We made sure to get some cute photos inside and outside the great western themed restaurant.

What a fun weekend!

I hope you all had a fabulous and fun weekend with your families as well!

Happy 4th of July
